Jefferson Sarson: My friend just bought a used car here in California. He is still a student driver. He was able to register it to his name, no insurance needed , just smog certificate.
Marvella Benward: I just drove a 2011 Nissan Titan off the lot with-out insurance so I'm pretty sure you can buy a car with-out insurance. I did however have to have proof of insurance to get the vehicle registered and tagged. In my case I was registering the vehicle in a different state than the one I bought it in.
Trena Berum: When you say "forced to buy", do you mean that you need to drive the car, or just that you need to own it? In most places, it is illegal to drive a car without insurance. If you need to drive the car, then you need insurance. If you just need to own it, but it can stay parked at your friend's place, then I am not sure.
