Marylee Lucks: Both Canon and Sony have produced great camcorders and a few turkeys - you need to be specific. Are you asking which is the best AVCHD camcorder, the best Digital8 etc, or which is the best format overall? If it's the latter you need to explain what you're doin! g - they all have strengths and weaknesses (OK, DVD is awful and MicroM! V was a complete waste of space).
