What is so entertaining about making fun of other people?

Marna Liddie: It makes people feel better about themselves to make fun of other people. That's why.

Maria Bengston: One word: Schadenfreude. I make fun of people but not intentionally. I mean making a joke out of someones personality quirk is funny. I don't have self esteem problems and I make fun of myself all the time. Now making fun of peoples looks, style, religion, race, or disabilities isn't funny but making fun of their personality quirks is. I just laugh at everything and think people shouldn't be so serious and up tight. I also like to get reactions out of people. Just today I told my friend I was pregnant. The look on her face= Priceless! I never mean to offend people when I make fun of them but they always get offended. This is why I do it but I'm not sure about other people. Maybe they're just sadists? This is just me and I personally think people need to learn to laugh at themselves. I'm not naive, I know there are mean people out there and we're never ! gonna stop bullying. Randolph Lozoya: You aren't just as bad as the bully for not doing anything. Even though it would be nice to stand up for the victim, it really isn't your problem and you're not obligated to do anything.But yeah.. I totally agree with you :)

Jeremy Donohue: I don't think people find it entertaining. Most people do it out of jealousy, or because they are bullied as well and they feel the need to spread the hate to other people. I think you're correct about the bystanders just laughing at what the bully says so the bully won't pick on them. I don't laugh, but I don't stand up to the bully. Schools are stupid to expect anyone to stand up for the victim.
