Irish Secondary Schools?

Cole Desher: http://www.shelteroffshore.com/index.php/living/mo...This should give you all the info you need. Students start secondary school in Ireland at age 12-1st year and sit their first state exams in 3rd year, normally age 15. This is called the Junior Certificate. They then progress to 5th and 6th year where they sit the Leaving Certificate in 6th year. There is an optional 4th year or transition year in some schools if pupils don't wish to go straight on to 5th yearhttp://www.educationireland.ie/httpdocs/htm/educat...this is also a good site. In Ireland it is compulsory for students to study the Irish language. However if your children are going into secondary school ,schools normally make an exemption for students who haven't studied Irish at primary school level. Hope this helps!!...Show more
